It is officially October! Which means it is time to get in gear and start checking out all the Halloween activities all across Long Island, including all the amazing Haunted Houses we have. Ready to get your scream on? Or maybe something a little more mellow for the kids? Between local non-profits and big commercial operations, there are plenty of options this year for everyone to get in the Halloween spirit the way they like best. We have gathered our favorites below, be on the lookout for our amazing hometown entries - North Patchogue Fire Department's House of Horrors, Gateway's Haunted Playhouse, and the Yaphank Trail of Terror. North Patchogue Fire Department House of Horrors
33 Davidson Avenue, Patchogue, NY 11772
Although this is a new production for 2018, this haunted house promises to have plenty of scares. Local haunted house, Hell House Productions has been creating scares for their Medford neighborhood for over 5 years. This year for the first time, they partner with the North Patchogue Fire Department to bring you the NPDF House Of Horrors. This one is open Friday and Saturdays starting October 5th from 7-11pm, and also October 29,30,31st. Tickets are purchased at the door. $20 for adults, $15 children 12 and under. Cash and credit accepted.
Gateway's Haunted Playhouse
215 South Country Road, Bellport, NY 11713
During the last several Octobers, one of the oldest theaters on Long Island transforms into one of the best haunted houses in the country. It has been voted consistently voted among the best in New York and the US by people who really know their scares. #1 in NYS (TheScareFactor.com), Best In America (Hauntworld Magazine), Top 10 Haunted Houses In New York (USA Today). It features top notch automation and professional actors decked out in award winning costumes and makeup. This year you will find special effects done by Ricky Vitus, a finalist on SyFy's FaceOff special-fx-themed contest show. Sorry kiddos, this one is not recommended for children under 12, however on select weekends, they feature a "Not So Scary Daytime Adventure." This time, the walk through is a family themed, up-beat storyline adventure featuring candy and fun characters along the way. Besides that, they have a midway with food trucks, beer/wine, and other Halloween themed entertainment such as fortune tellers and fire breathing shows! Tickets are $30 online and $35 at the door, and $40 and $45 for the Fast Pass Admission. Opens Sept 28th - Nov 3rd.
Yaphank Trail of Terror
65 Main St, Yaphank, NY
Don't be fooled! Just because this trail is on the property of the Yaphank Presbyterian Churchdoesn't mean it is not terrifying! This half-mile walk through the woods takes full advantage of its location and setting, serving up a different kind of scare experience than your indoor haunted house. A chilly wind goes by as you seeing your breath hang slightly in the air. You can feel the leaves crunch under your feet and hear the twigs break as you walk...and what was that sound in the distance? If you are not the walking or scaring type, they have classic horror movies playing in the field, a bonfire with marshmallows for roasting, and other small concessions. The trail opens Fridays and Saturdays from Oct 12-27, 7pm-11pm. Tickets are $12.
Chamber of Horrors NY
1745 Express Drive North, Hauppauge, NY
Chamber of Horrors NY is one of New York's top Haunted Events. Featuring 3 haunted attractions and an interactive horror stage show. Guests will be treated to a show that explains the backstories and characters behind all three haunted houses being featured this year. The show includes gory visuals, intense audio, live actors, special fx and more. There are also three haunted houses: Dead End Breakfast, Industrial Laughter and Carnage.
The show is open on varying nights from Sept. 28 through Oct. 31. Oct. 25 is Kill the Lights Night, and Oct. 31 is Full Contact Night. Standard tickets are $35, and the RIP Pass is $45.
Deepwells Haunted Mansion
2 Taylor Lane, Saint James, NY
Deepwells Mansion is known for an abundance of paranormal activity throughout the year. A favorite place for Mediums an Psychics to gather for ghost hunts and Seances.
In October they open their doors and welcome you in, to tour the screamingly horrific Deepwells Haunted Mansion. Enter the front door and explore room after room, floor after floor, of horrific scenes and creepy clowns, spiders galore and keep your eye out for the scientific experiments gone wrong! Good luck finding your way through the dimly lit hallways. And just when you think you survived, think again! .In order to Exit, you must also make your way through the "Terrifying Trail!"- through the woods on the haunted grounds of Deepwells Mansion.
The trail is open Oct. 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27, from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person.
The Haunted Woods
1606 Wading River Manor Road, Wading River (Schiff Scout Reservation)
The Theodore Roosevelt Council invites the public, and Boy Scout troops across the Island, to the Haunted Woods. The Schiff Scout Reservation will be transformed into a spooky haunted spot, featuring a haunted house, a hay ride, an escape room and more. The event will be open Oct. 26 from 7 to 11 p.m., Oct. 27 from 2 to 11 p.m. and Oct. 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. All-inclusive tickets for all three attractions are $40. Individually, the hay ride is $10, the haunted house is $15 and the escape room is $20.
Crypts of the Coliseum
1255 Hempstead Turnpike, Uniondale, NY (Nassau Coliseum/NYCB Live Expo Hall)
Back again for 2018, Nassau Coliseum once again will become Crypts of the Coliseum, one of the biggest and most popular haunted attractions on Long Island. Brought to you by the same team that runs Blood Manor, a very popular, and an incredibly scary New York City haunted event. With 7 different themed rooms/attractions, such as The Thunderdome and Killer Clown Room, and over 10,000 sq ft, there will be plenty of screams from you and your group. In order to combat some of the long lines that proved problematic in years past, there is a new time-slot based system as well as a 'spur of the moment' option, more information can be found on their website. It should take a group of 6 people about 20 min to walk through. The Crypt is open from Oct. 5 through Nov. 3, and if you are really brave, check out the pitch-black special nights they are offering! Tickets $30 regular/$50 for RIP package.
Bayville Scream Park
8 Bayville Avenue, Bayville, NY
Dare to venture into the Bayville Adventure Park after 6pm during the month October? You will find it has transformed into another extremely popular haunted attraction called the Bayville Scream Park. There are actually 6 distinctly different attractions in one, with themed areas such as the Bloodworth Haunted Mansion, Uncle Needle's Funhouse of Fear, and Temple of Terror. The 2018 park will bring you to the brand new attraction & story of the Bayville Haunted Asylum! There are several ticket prices depending which attractions you wish to visit, but $49.75 will get you the full 6 attraction pass. Aside from the scares, there are a few restaurants and bars on site. Stop by the ourdoor bar Skullys Pub or head inside for the full service restaurant named Shipwreck Tavern, or maybe the Creepy Café offering snacks and drinks (cotton candy, popcorn, cookies, candy apples, churros, water, soda, hot chocolate) or even Beaches and Cream Ice Cream Parlour. There are also "Not So Scary” weekends for kids and those less scare inclined. Open Sept. 28 - Nov 4. Park opens at 6pm, show starts at 7pm.
Horse Ability's Haunted Hay Barn
223 Store Hill Road, Westbury, NY (SUNY Old Westbury Campus)
This historic 1912 Broad Hollow Farm is transformed into an award winning haunted barn during October. Brought to you by Rae Natale and Jamie Thomas-Martin, the same team for over 20 years behind the Bayville Haunted Fire House for the last 20 years. After their haunt was destroyed during Hurricane Sandy, they teamed up with HorseAbility to create the Haunted Hay Barn fund raising event. Since it has started it has been won several awards from LIHauntedHouses.com. Purchase tickets on site between 6-10:30pm for $13 per person, starting on Oct. 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28. The haunt is suggest for children 10 and older, and is handicap accessible. All funds raised go directly into HorseAbility, 501c3 not-for-profit organization that provides equine facilitated programs to children and adults with special needs.
