Brookhaven Officials Attend LGBT Network Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Farmingville, NY – On May 31, Councilman Michael Loguercio (second from left), Town Clerk Donna Lent (center), Councilwoman Valerie Cartright (fourth from right) and Councilman Neil Foley (right) joined the LGBT Network of Hauppauge for the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at their new 15,000 square foot center located at 125 Kennedy Drive in Hauppauge. The new center will feature 7,500 square foot community space including:
Councilman Loguercio said, “Congratulations to all the folks involved in facilitating the opening of this wonderful community center, where everyone is welcome to visit and enjoy.”
Town Clerk, Donna Lent said, “The LGBT Network has been providing vital services to our community for over 25 years. I am very proud that Long Island is now home to the largest suburban LGBT center in the country and I emphatically thank this organization for continually growing and expanding their services and advocacy.”
Councilwoman Cartright said, “I am thrilled to see this incredible space open on Long Island. This center brings opportunity and hope for thousands of Long Islanders in the LGBTQ community and will be available for use by the entire community. This Grand Opening was the perfect way to begin Pride month.”
Councilman Foley said, "Not only is this a safe place for young people of the LGBT community to come and express themselves with peers, but it's also a valuable resource for friends and family members to learn more about what it means to be LGBT."
- A café and workforce development program for young people.
- Meeting and conference facilities with the latest technology and audio-visual equipment.
- Expanded health, human services and support programs including drop-in HIV testing 5 days a week.
- A new initiative for LGBT-headed families, LGBT Immigrants and more.
