Patchogue is getting ready for its first Alive After Five Winter Wonderland, scheduled for Thursday, December 20th from 5 to 9 pm. The event promises to be fun filled day for shoppers and families, with ice sculptures, extended retail store hours, and a synthetic ice-skating rink to be set up in front of the Patchogue Medford Library and Patchogue Theatre on Main Street. Although details are still being worked on, the plan is to encourage shopping in the retail district by providing local shoppers with vouchers to skate for free. Organized by the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, the four-hour event will be the culmination of a month long holiday celebration beginning with a Christmas boat parade on November 18, and the annual village Christmas parade on November 24th. This year's seasonal theme "It’s a Wonderful Life, Patchogue!" will include judging and voting for best window display.
The event organizing committee is asking for help in funding the event. A GoFundMe page has been established to help offset costs for the skating rink and other operating expenses. The goal is to raise $20,000. The rink, which can hold up to 70 skaters, costs $14,000 and any extra funds raised would go toward other activities.
Main Street will be closed for this event in order to accommodate the ice skating rink and other winter activities. However, unlike the summer Alive After Five® series, there will be no vendors, food trucks, or outdoor dining/drinking areas. Instead, the hope is for shoppers to enjoy the spirit of the holidays with retail and restaurant deals.
Stay tuned for more details.
