Get Crafty This Weekend, Make These Two Easy Thanksgiving Crafts for Kids!

Get crafty with your little ones and have their artwork adorn your Thanksgiving table! Here are two easy crafts that are fun to make with even your youngest Pilgrims!

Pinecone Turkey

This craft is simple to make with just a few basic materials and a pinecone.  Perhaps send the little ones out to search for pinecones and leaves or you may prefer, as I did, to use silk leaves and store bought pinecones. You will also need scissors, glue, felt, and googly eyes. Step one is to use scissors to cut out a head, two feet, nose and gizzard from felt.  (may be best if completed by an adult- depending on the age of the your child). Next add the googly eyes, nose and gizzard to the felt Turkey head. Choose your leaves and add them to the pinecone.  Working from the outside in, glue one leaf to the pinecone at a time. (I played with leaf colors and shapes until I had a tail I liked) Now its time to add the head.  Add glue to the pinecone and place the head in the center of the feather line on the front of the turkey Finally, time to add the feet.  Add drops of glue to the feet and add them to the pinecone. The finished product:

Pottery Pilgrim Hat & Native American Chief

If the pinecone turkey is one too many steps or you have a large amount of guests coming, try these hats and feathers on for size. To create these adorable decorations, you will need small terracotta pots, paint markers (black, red, green, yellow & gold), glue, feathers and googly eyes. Take one of the small terracotta pot and paint it black. Using the gold paint marker, draw a buckle on the rim of the pot to complete the Pilgrims hat. Now for the Chief.  Start by decorating the rim to create the band of his headdress. Next add a smile and then two small drops of glue to mount the googly eyes. Add glue to the inside of the back rim, opposite the face.  Select the colors and size feathers you would like to add and set them into the glue I created both of these easy crafts with my 4 year old.  We had a great time shopping for supplies and putting these cute decorations together.  They will make a perfect hand-made addition to our Thanksgiving Day table!
