Patchogue 2018 Veterans Day Ceremony

On this cold November 11th morning, Patchogue Village held a Veterans Day commemoration ceremony.    As speaker Jon Ralph, commander of American Legion reminded us, the significance of this day, specifically the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month", is the time and day on which the armistice was signed.  The armistice originally marked the cease fire between the Allies of World War I and Germany and ended the fighting on the Western Front of World War I. The ceremony commenced with prayers and selections of patriotic music provided by the Patchogue Medford Middle School band. Mayor Paul Pontieri and Suffolk Country Legislator Rob Calarco gave thanks to our Veterans and introduced a new village program to celebrate local Veterans.  This program encourages families of local vets to sponsor a medallion to be installed along Main Street to have their loved ones remembered and remind village residents and visitors of their service to our country.  After a formal gun salute, veterans of the American Legion Post 269 and AmVets Post 111 helped to unveil the first official Patchogue Village Veterans Medallion in front of Arooga's on Main Street.   For more information or to sponsor the medallion contact Patchogue Village at (631) 475-4300.
