Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Ceremony

Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Rededicated at Lake Ronkonkoma Park Ceremony    Farmingville, NY – On January 17, Dan Murphy, father of Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Michael P. Murphy and members of the Brookhaven Town Board led the rededication ceremony at the site of the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial at Lake Ronkonkoma. The new, etched stone monument was donated by Lido Stone of Calverton after the original was destroyed by vandalism in July of 2018. The Town also partnered with Penn Globe to install two surveillance cameras and security lights to record any activity in the park. Lt. Murphy, a Navy Seal from Patchogue, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for protecting the lives of his fellow Seals during an intense firefight in the hills of Afghanistan in 2005.   Supervisor Romaine commented, “This monument stands to represent an individual that was the best of the best. Lt. Michael Murphy is memorialized here in stone and he is remembered in our hearts not only for the sacrifice he made for his country, but for the extraordinary human being that he was.”   Pictured left to right are Robert Martinez (representing County Legislator Tom Muratore), Supervisor Ed Romaine, County Legislator Leslie Kennedy, Councilman Kevin LaValle, Councilman Michael Loguercio, Assemblyman Joe DeStefano, Councilman Neil Foley, County Legislator Tom Cilmi and County Comptroller John Kennedy.
